Who is Jesus?

Christians believe that God is a Trinity, meaning that He is one essence that manifests in three persons. Jesus is the second person of the Trinity. John 3:16 in the Bible tells us that “God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son (Jesus) that whosoever believes on Him will not perish but have eternal life.

You see, when God created this world and the first humans, they were perfect in every way. But God wanted the humans to love Him freely. In order for them to love Him freely He had to give them free moral choices. When they were tempted they chose not to trust God, and this changed them forever. They were now sinful creatures who would struggle to be good. Not only that but they could not find their way back to God without help.

God knew that humans would perish without help, so He sent Jesus, the second person of the Trinity. Jesus was born of a human woman, conceived by the Holy Spirit. He grew up and taught His followers for three years. But the establishment hated Him because He was perfect and they were not. They conspired to have him killed, but on the third day after his death He rose from the dead and was seen by many.

Not only did many claim to see Him, but lives were forever changed. All the leaders had to do was parade Jesus’ body around and it would have ended this thing called Christianity right then and there. But you see, they could not. Jesus had truly rose from the dead. Jesus’ followers went about preaching the message of salvation by faith in Jesus, and many of them died for that message. But no one recanted. You see, they had seen the risen Lord.

If this were a conspiracy, someone would have folded at some point. But of the twelve apostles and many others after them who claimed to see the risen Jesus, not one recanted. Not one.

No person can save themselves by their good works. But the good news is that Jesus has already paid the price for their sins. They don’t have to. They just have to trust the work He finished 2000 years ago. He rose from the dead and He is alive today. And He wants to have a relationship with you! Just ask Him!
